Courtney made it through yesterday without spiking a fever. Thank God!
The nurses kept her sedated and although we don't see her beautiful eyes as much when she's sedated, her breathing is much slower and relaxed.
This rest time is so important to Courtney. Her white count was down today and her lungs sound a tiny bit better than before.
These baby steps are great progress.
Thanks to Nurse Bonnie for the idea to put the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on.
Courtney watched it with one eye and her heart rate increased (in a good way) when the marching band and singers were performing.
She briefly watched Regis and Kelly this morning but wasn't to impressed.
(Can't say I blame her)
She is relatively comfortable today, still sedated as she continues to heal.
She was awake for about 30 minutes this morning controlling her breathing before she started breathing rapidly. Another baby step.
We await the results of this am's chest xray to see how her lungs are healing.
We hope that her right lung will be much better by Monday.
Courtney is wearing my sneakers today so her feet remain flexible. The 'astronaut' boots the hospital uses are so heavy and Courtney works very hard to wrestle her feet out of them. Sneakers are much more natural to her.
Because she is more relaxed under sedation her mouth was relaxed and we saw her teeth and tongue. Everyone is trying to get her to open her mouth and stick out her tongue!
Thanks for the Thanksgiving texts, emails, and good wishes. As always we appreciate your thoughts and prayers and ask you to keep them coming!
Courtney will be able to make further progress once her lungs have healed more.
Finally, thanks to Bob the respiratory therapist who explained the ventilator in detail to us and what improvements they are looking for Courtney to make. It's so reassuring to understand the myriad equipment surrounding her bed.
