We had good news today as Courtney opened her eyes quite a bit. They were not opened all the way but enough for her to see us and for us to see that she recognized us!
She responded to some of our commands and was very active moving around grabbing our hands and moving her legs.
We know that the waking up process is not necessarily a straight line so she will have periods of sleepiness and periods of waking. Overall her progress today was very very good.
In the coming days staff here will look for Courtney to continue to become more awake - respond to more commands, move more, etc.
Courtney is still fighting pneumonia in both lungs and every day in the hospital is a day at risk for catching other bugs. We need your prayers to protect Courtney from anything that could slow her progress.
Although Courtney will be here in the ICU for a long time we have already begun discussing rehab. We find that unbelievable because this week has been ...- we just don't have the words to describe it. Ideally Courtney will eventually go from ICU to rehab. If she does not have to go to a floor within the hospital her risk for catching another bug will be reduced.
We thank God for sparing Courtney's life last Saturday and for protecting her and healing her thus far. We are confident that God will continue to bless Courtney in her recovery and that he will restore her to full health.
We believe your prayers have made this possible and humbly ask that you continue to pray for her along her very long road.
