11/22 - Mom's Update

Courtney had a tough night with fevers and higher than ideal pressures in her brain.

The fever broke this morning and with quieting down the noise she calmed down and her pressures went down and have stayed down. As I write this neurology docs are removing the tube from her brain.

They removed the right chest tube this morning.

Later in the day doctors and nurses will begin turning down the ventilator to see how she breathes again on her own.

The staff strain was identified and her antibiotics have been changed. She has a weaker strain of pneumonia than originally suspected so the change in treatment should bring good results. We pray those good results come fast.

Despite the fevers, pnuemonia and infection Courtney was much more active this morning.

She was digging her heels into the bed and moving her arms around alot.

Most importantly many of her movements were purposeful. She took the pulseox monitor off her finger three times. The first time she just played with it until it fell off. The next two times she wrapped her fingers around the cord and pulled it off.

Nurses put boots on her feet that go on and off for 2 hours at a time. They look like boots people wear on an inversion table or astronaut boots. They are very heavy but they will keep her feet flexible for when she's up and around.

We are focused on getting rid of the pneumonia and getting Courtney to wake up. Please pray for Courtney to recover from this infection, be protected from further infection and for Courtney to wake up and come back to us.

Thank you.
